Teaching Transatlanticism Resource – Texas Christian University, USA
All are invited to a virtual launch of the Teaching [19th-century] Transatlanticism website (http://teachingtransatlanticism.tcu.edu) from 5:30-6:30 CST on Monday, September 22, 2014. This website features sample transatlantic teaching materials (syllabi, lesson plans, new publications relevant to teaching), information about the forthcoming book, Teaching Transatlanticism: Resources for Teaching Nineteenth-Century Anglo-American Print Culture (Edinburgh UP, 2015),* and narratives of past teaching or learning experiences. The site welcomes collaborative sharing of further teaching materials from all who are interested as well as interchanges about teaching and/or conceptual issues at the “Conversations” tab on the website.
The launch will be a “live” event via simultaneous participation from multiple sites and comments submitted to “Conversations” during the launch party. The launch can also be followed at #TeachTransAtl

Call for Nominations – Robert and Vineta Colby Scholarly Book Prize
The Research Society for Victorian Periodicals is pleased to announce this year’s call for submissions for the Robert and Vineta Colby Scholarly Book Prize, awarded to the scholarly book that most advances the understanding of the nineteenth-century British newspaper or periodical press. All books exploring the British press of the period are eligible (including single-author monographs, edited collections, and editions) so long as they have an official publication date of 2014.
The winner will receive a monetary award of up to $2,000, and will be invited to speak at the RSVP conference in Ghent, Belgium (10-11 July 2015). The prize was first made possible by a generous gift from the late Vineta Colby in memory of her husband, Robert, and now honors both Colbys for their pioneering scholarship in the field of Victorian periodicals and their dedicated service to RSVP.
To nominate a book, please email the chair of the prize committee, Maria Frawley (mfrawley@gwu.edu), by December 15, 2014. You or your press will be asked to supply the committee with five copies of the book by 31 December 2014.

interest in the past. The Popular History in Victorian Magazines Database (PHVM) derives from a project on popular presentations of history in Victorian magazines:

The database presents results from a content analysis of five Victorian magazines from different sectors of the periodicals market – All the Year Round, The Leisure Hour, The Englishwoman’s Domestic Magazine, The Ladies’ Treasury, and The Boy’s Own Magazine – for the years 1860, 1865 and 1870. It makes visible some of their common trends and significant differences. It thus indicates that mid-Victorian popular historical culture was marked by both mainstream interests and significant internal diversification.
